Buddy Walk Coordinator Wanted
Purpose
The Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society (GSDSS) is seeking a Buddywalk Coordinator to oversee the planning and execution of the 2025 Buddywalk in Myrtle Beach, SC, scheduled for October 2025. This position will ensure that GSDSS’s mission—Raising Awareness, Sharing Joy, and Spreading Hope—remains central throughout the planning process and on event day.
The Buddywalk Coordinator will serve as an independent contractor, not an employee of GSDSS. The position will remain open for at least five business days, and selected candidates will be invited for interviews upon the job’s closure.
Job Responsibilities
The Buddywalk Coordinator will:
Collaborate closely with the Board Committee Chairperson for the Buddywalk and maintain constant communication.
Secure the event location, permits, licenses, insurance, and other necessary approvals.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the Buddywalk through local businesses, media outlets, and community partnerships.
Build and maintain relationships with community sponsors to secure funding and resources.
Coordinate the creation and management of a dedicated Buddywalk website for team captains, participants, sponsors, and volunteers.
Maintain and provide data in formats such as spreadsheets or reports, as requested.
Arrange entertainment and activities, including inflatables, games, DJs, food trucks, and other attractions.
Manage merchandise orders, including t-shirts, medals, banners, and signage for the event.
Recruit and manage volunteers in collaboration with the Buddywalk Committee Chairperson.
Attend and actively participate in monthly Buddywalk Committee meetings.
Oversee the event day’s implementation, ensuring all aspects of the festival run smoothly.
Safeguard confidential information related to GSDSS team participants, sponsors, and volunteers.
Compensation
The Buddywalk Coordinator will receive a fixed fee based on experience and previous successes. Payments will be made as follows:
25% of the fee upon hire (January 2025)
25% by June 15, 2025
50% after the event, once all invoices are paid (on or around November 30, 2025)
